This meetup group is for everyone who identifies as black and is working in the tech industry in Berlin and Germany. The main purpose is to share our expertise and experiences and together build a strong community that will shape the path for the next generation.
Are you an ally?
BlackInTech Berlin welcomes committed allies from outside the Black community! We are eager to learn how you plan to contribute in the discussion of increasing the participation and inclusion of black people in tech.
Entrepreneurship is defined as the willingness to take risks, plan, streamline, organize and manage a new business venture in an ever evolving and competitive global marketplace. Becoming an entrepreneur has important benefits, both economically and socially. Entrepreneurship is not only a driving force for job creation, competitiveness and growth but it also contributes to personal fulfilment and the achievement of social objectives.
The Challenge Ahead:
The latest survey from Atomico showed that only 0.9% of tech founders in Europe self-identified as Black/African/Caribbean, and those respondents made up only 0.5% of all founders who have raised external capital.
Still You Can Do It:
Though the numbers above seem bleak and uninspiring, we still believe that five years from now things may look different, only if we start now. The good news is that whilst Covid19 has tremendously affected the job market, it has on the other hand provided an opportunity in the market for new businesses. Secondly Germany and other European countries have an enormous amount of entrepreneurship programs and opportunities that can be harnessed to encourage aspiring entrepreneurs from minority backgrounds to take part.
Where To From Now:
Do you have a business idea or do you have aspirations to build a business in Germany? Then this conversation is for you. Our Speakers will share their experiences and journey in starting their businesses and help answer some of the questions you might have, such as :
- German bureaucratic hurdles - Accessibility to Funding - Access to social networks with the right expertise - Role models and mentors
