Join Bloomfield Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs for our next Author Meet & Greet, featuring renowned sports writer Hank Gola. He’ll discuss his book “City of Champions,” about the 1939 Orange Bowl game in Miami, won by the underdog team, the Garfield High Boilermakers.
Gola will discuss and answer questions about the book City of Champions, which recounts the story of how two high schools from widely different backgrounds met at the Orange Bowl in Miami in 1939. The improbable national championship game had big-time connections running as deep as Franklin Roosevelt. Learn how this game came to reflect America’s cultural and socio-economic landscape of the time.
The event is free, but you must pre-register to secure your spot. Books will be available for purchase and signing, and we’ll serve refreshments for your enjoyment.
