UPDATE: I had big dreams for this Meetup, but unfortunately don't have the time to dedicate to it right now. It warms my heart to see that so many people are looking to embrace body diversity and live more intuitively. I've paid the subscription for this group through December 13th. If anyone is interested in taking over as the organizer of this group, please let me know!
Welcome to Body Rebels! This group is for people who have ever held back from doing the things they want because of their body size or shape. If you've ever been marginalized or been told you can't be healthy without losing weight, this group will introduce you to Health at Every Size (HAES). HAES rejects cultural assumptions and embraces the following principles:
- Celebrate diversity (size, age, race, gender, ability, sexual orientation, etc) - Value lived experience over cultural and scientific assumptions - Move and eat in ways that are both intuitive and joyful
Research shows that you can be healthy regardless of your size and that you can improve your health through HAES whether or not weight loss occurs. So lets smash some cultural expectations!
This is a safe space to talk about our experiences and do new things with others who are ready to embrace body acceptance. This is a place to let loose and have fun without worrying about our bodies. Everyone who is interested in HAES is welcome here. However, there is a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to openly judging or shaming other group members.
I'd love to hear the types of activities you would be interested in doing as a group. This can be anything from going hiking, to having a paint-night, or going out to eat. Please feel free to send me any and all suggestions!
