Body Stories is a long-term therapy group especially for women. Together, we use body movement and storytelling to explore thoughts, feelings and memories that may be difficult to explain, describe or put into words. The group has been designed to provide a safe space for women in which to share our individual and collective ‘body stories’. Powerful things happen when women gather together to move, talk, dance, laugh, cry and share their stories, and I believe that, together, we can change the world.
Who is it for? - Women experiencing difficulties or concerns with emotional problems, conflict or distress, especially in their personal relationships, and those who experience physical symptoms of distress or trauma - Women who want to enhance their personal communication skills, self-exploration or self-understanding, and improve their personal relationships - Women who may find some feelings or experiences too overwhelming or difficult to communicate by words alone - Women who desire change: on a personal, intimate, social, community or global level - Women who can commit to being part of a weekly therapy group
You don't need any dance experience to join the group - just a willingness to be open, to listen and to show up and be present for yourself and others.
About me I am an experienced life coach and a licensed dance movement psychotherapist. I have worked with a variety of clients in the NHS and the criminal justice system, and I have been running Body Stories groups with women in community mental health settings since 2016. I began dancing when I was 3 years old and I know the power that creative movement and dance has to connect us with who we really are, beneath the stories we tell ourselves and others about the world and our relationship to it.
