What we're about

Welcome! We’re an online and in-person book club celebrating the literary works of Black and Brown authors. Our objective is to generate awareness around identity politics in the Black community, and to become familiar with Black literature. (But also to have fun, meet and get to know other curious minds, and read some great books!) It’s a safe and inclusive space for dialogue, and everyone is welcome here.

The only ground rule is that practicing respect is a must. Biases might surface, and those conversations can feel messy. Speaking up is appreciated, but active listening is also enough. And you don’t always have to read the book to show up. Didn’t finish it? Join and tell us why.

Due to the risks associated with COVID-19, this is a virtual book club until it’s safe to resume public gatherings. Meetings will be held monthly via Google Meet or Zoom. As the community of Boise re-opens, the book club will be engaging with local independent bookstores and the public library system to draw in additional interest and support.

Books have already been selected a few months out and can be found on the events page. In the future, it will be up to the members to recommend books of interest, after which we will have a collective vote.
