Details Join some fellow Bold Betties for a weeknight hike at Crosswinds Marsh Wetland Interpretive Reserve! Wear some good shoes, bring some water, and don't forget the bug spray and sunscreen. We'll meet at the park entrance (directions from the website below) at 8am and get rolling at 8:15. We'll be walking on unpaved trails so wear appropriate shoes and clothing. We'll hike for 1.5ish hours. There are a few different routes to choose from, we can decide as a group which way to go. This is a dog friendly meetup (just make sure they're on a leash). From the website : "For nature enthusiasts with an interest in wetlands and wildlife, Crosswinds Marsh is a must-see. You can explore diverse wetland habitats where more than 240 species of birds and 40 species of mammals have been identified. Crosswinds is home to a nesting pair of bald eagles, beaver and other exciting native wildlife. Directions: Drive I-275 to Exit #8 (Flat Rock / Will Carleton Road ). Exit highway and head west on Will Carleton Road. Drive 3.5 miles to Haggerty Road. Turn right (north) onto Haggerty Road. Drive approximately ½ mile to the park entrance, located on the left-hand side." https://www.waynecounty.com/departments/publicservices/parks/crosswinds-marsh.aspx

The first Thursday of every month, Bold Betties Detroit will host a book club. I'm excited to announce the winner for our October poll! We'll be reading 'Lands of Lost Borders: A Journey on the Silk Road' by Kate Harris. "A brilliant, fierce writer, and winner of the 2019 RBC Taylor Prize, makes her debut with this enthralling travelogue and memoir of her journey by bicycle along the Silk Road—an illuminating and thought-provoking fusion of The Places in Between, Lab Girl, and Wild that dares us to challenge the limits we place on ourselves and the natural world." Here's a link to a YouTube highlights video of her travels as well! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAf3FTOPSEk I leave it up to you whether you want to watch before or after you read the book :)
