Love science? Or want to learn something new? Join us for a book club on all things sciency. We will meet regularly for engaging discussions on the book of the month.

Our first selection is “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks: by Rebecca Skloot”.

Rebecca Skloot describes the story of Henrietta Lacks, an African-American woman whose cancer cells were collected without her consent in 1951. Shortly after her diagnosis, she passed away and her cells went on to become the first human immortal cell line (HeLa). HeLa cells were an invaluable research tool leading to breakthroughs in many medical fields. The book explores the controversies and ethical issues of informed consent, exploitation, and race.

Read the book and come share your thoughts through a guided discussion!
