What we’re about
Boston 1 is a nonprofit dragon boat club operating out of the Boston Harbor. Our water season begins late April, 2025! Our winter season resumes November, 2025!
Boston 1 is a team that balances a fun social atmosphere with a competitive edge - a family away from home where we encourage friendship, and physical fitness.
While we have temporarily paused public Meetup events, we're still welcoming new paddlers. Please email us at info@boston1.org if you're interested in attending a practice session!
If you join Boston 1, there will be ample opportunities to race, paddle, socialize, and get stronger together. During a normal year, we race in regional dragon boat race festivals about 6 times over the summer. We treat race events like road trips: driving with friends around the Northeast, paddling competitively, having adventures, eating, drinking and getting to know each other better.
But let's be real, dragon boat paddling is an athletic sport. We aren't going for a lazy sight-seeing paddle. Your heart will be pumping, you will get sweaty, you will get splashed, you will have a lot of fun. We work hard together so that we can race strong and be proud of our efforts as one team. Do expect to get a good workout with some impressive beasts on the boat, but most importantly, we do all this in a non-judgmental and welcoming environment. All fitness levels are welcome.
Social Stuff
The team also comes together at social events that are organized throughout the year (long bike rides, bowling, pub nights, pot lucks, winter ski retreats and end-of-year banquets).
Admin Stuff
In the event of inclement weather, announcements will be made through the comments area of each meetup event, also via slack.

As a 501(c)(3) charitable organization founded in 2013 by a group of experienced paddlers, our focus is to promote the sport and community of dragon boating in the greater Boston area. While we strive to paddle at an elite level to race competitively, we welcome athletes of all fitness levels and aim to make Boston 1 a fun experience for everyone. During the winter months we train as a group indoors on a weekly basis, in preparation to hit the water come springtime.3 attendees
