What we're about

Gaudeamus igitur! This group is for anyone interested in learning to speak Latin, whether you're a complete tiro (beginner), an advanced speaker, or a teacher/student who has learned about Latin in school but would like to try it conversationally. We'll work together to provide a number of different experiences, including weeknight coffee hours, beginners' workshops, intermediate and advanced speaker symposia, and weekend cultural events like museum visits, city tours, or hiking. Our goal is to provide frequent opportunities for conversation in Latin, with a wide range of speakers so that everyone's skill can improve.

For more information and spoken Latin resources see our website (https://sites.google.com/site/clipeusbos/).

Salvete Loquentes! I am changing the online version to once a month for now and going to alternate it with a later in person event. If that isn't super popular I will move do doing everything in person. We will start in English and do introductions and then switch to Latin. Beginners and folks who want to listen more than speak welcome. I hope you can join!

NOTA BENE: We are starting in person events post lockdown. We will aim to sit outside (weather permitting). We ask that you only attend if vaccinated since some of our members are at high risk for Covid complications. Thanks so much.

We start in English for introductions and then switch to Latin. If you have a text you are interested in reading together, feel free to bring it. Beginners are very welcome and we do not consider slowing down for you an imposition in any way. We are in love with this language and want to share it. All walks of life and political persuasions are welcome. The Roman Empire was wildly diverse after all. Feel free to send us a message if you have questions or want to touch base with a group leader before coming for the first time (you can absolutely just show up too).
