This is a group for avid live music fans, and musicians, who want to share their knowledge, music, and experience with others, and expand their social circle. It's great to meet other like minded people who also enjoy live music at various venues in Boston, and the surrounding vicinity.
The more people participate the better this group can be. Members who want to, will be listed as Event Organizers, giving them the ability to post concerts, as meetup events, that they plan to attend, and invite others to join them. If, for any reason, you can’t attend the event that you posted, please inform those who have RSVP’d to meet you there, and they can communicate via the event message board about how to meet up with one another at that event. Meeting for drinks or dinner before a show, would also be a fun way to get to know other people in the group.
Member Profiles: For security reasons, the Boston Live Indie Music group requires every member to post a picture that makes them easily identifiable at events. A picture must be a recent photo of the member's face. Profiles with photos of landscapes, or objects, or that don't include the person's face, can not be approved for membership.
There is a one time $5 member contribution fee which will go towards the amount that Meet-Up charges me to organize this meetup group, which is $180/yr. This is due within the first 3 months of membership. Once you have paid this fee, I will change you to exempt from paying further dues. I am unable to change the the membership to show as a "one time" payment. It only gives the option of paying "annually" or "monthly". So, making people exempt after they have paid their fee is the best approach.
It is not my intention to profit from this group. From my previous experience with Meet-up groups, and as an organizer of a prior group x 9 years, I know that contributing to the group helps members feel more invested in it. And, it becomes our group, not just the organizers group. Therefore, any additional money collected, beyond the Meet-Up group fee of $180/yr, will be donated to 2 charities: 1) The Iguana Fund, which aids artists to meet their musical goals. https://www.passim.org/our-mission/iguana-music-fund/ 2) Musicians On Call, which is an organization that brings musicians to the bedside of patients in the hospital recovering from illness, and patients in hospice care. Music can be healing, but it also provides comfort to the soul at a time when it is most needed. https://www.musiciansoncall.org/boston/
Several years ago, I was an active member of a Live Music Meet-Up group, which ended. I met some great people though this group; many of them I am still friends with. It is my hope to create a similar community of people who want to participate in organizing music related events to bring people together.
These are some of the venues we will list music events at: The House Of Blues, The Midlde East, Thunder Road, Club Passim, The Sinclair, The Lily Pad, Toad, Once, Ragattabar, Brighton Music Hall, City Winery, The Burren Backroom, The Roswell, The Lizard Lounge, The Plough and Stars, The Royale, The Cantab, and several more. Music festivals we are attending can also be listed as events.
