Main Topic: A Discussion on the Eight Ds of Exponential Growth: Deception, Disruption, Digitization, Dematerialization, Democratization, Decentralization, Demonetization and Disintermediation.

We will have a short presentation followed by a discussion on the many Ds of Exponential Growth as put together by Peter Diamandis, the entrepreneur and philanthropist that wrote the best-seller book, Abundance: The Future is Better Than You Think.

+Deceptive – early stages of exponential growth processes may be deceptively linear

+Disruptive – once exponential growth reaches the inflection point, or “knee of the curve,” they become truly disruptive;

+Digitized – more information is becoming digitized, opening the door for a layer of analytics (e.g. machine learning) to be placed on top of it;

+Dematerialized – no longer do you have to buy a flashlight or digital camera, you can simply purchase an app on your phone to accomplish these tasks;

+Demonetized – as manufacturing techniques improve, technologies are becoming less expensive at an alarming pace;

+Democratized – there will be 3 billion more people on the Internet by 2020, leading to more perspectives because these people will be given a voice in the global discourse for the first time;

[ an additional D] +Decentralized (and distributed) - as in local geographies, businesses and individuals taken matters on their own hands -think energy as in localized solar energy produced by every business and household as opposed to energy coming from a central power station or airbnb and huge hotel chains or uber and zipcar in transportation;

[ a second additional D] +Disintermediated - a first cousin of the previous D, and of Democratization - think of selling your own house instead of paying 6% of its value regardless of amount or doing your own medicine or lawyering;

DETAILED PROGRAM:

First, we'll have some wine and refreshments and be merry until 07:00 PM when we will sit for the meetup,

Second, we will go around the long table and introduce ourselves, assessing each member's goals for participating in this meetup,

Third, we will have a very short presentation on the main topic, followed by a lively discussion.

Fourth, we'll end up by getting feedback on topics for future meetups;

08:50 - >09:00 PM - Plan of Action for future activities, along with more merry mingling and philosophizing.
