The Psychological Foundations of Immersive Media
Immersive media (AR, VR, MR, etc.) have been around for decades, but only recently accessible to the public. Today, we have an explosion of creativity in new inventions and new uses, almost every day. Dr. Jacobson will describe how these media work, psychologically, which sets the requirements for all immersive technology, no matter how advanced. He will cut through the word soup and give the audience a way to categorize all immersive media. Attendees will leave with a basic framework for using VR and AR to engage, entertain, and get work done.

Before It’s Too Late (BITL) is a virtual reality exposition featuring climate change stories, solutions, and simulations, aspiring to change the climate change narrative through immersive VR and unite a coalition for collective action.
Climate change is one of the most urgent global issues today, yet the problem still feels far away to many. We are a team of graduate students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and we created BITL in hopes of igniting the missing emotional connection, ownership, and agency.
