Introduction to STAN

Details

Stan is a probabilistic programming language (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Probabilistic_programming_language) for statistical inference (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statistical_inference) with interfaces to many languages ... including R. For more about Stan see http://mc-stan.org/ (http://mc-stan.org/))

For our August meeting, Ben Goodrich (Columbia U. and Stan developer, see http://www.columbia.edu/~bg2382/ ) will give us an introduction and overview of Stan and how to use it from R.

Dan Flynn (Harvard's Department of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology, see http://oeb.harvard.edu/people/daniel-flynn ) will give a short introduction to using it to address questions of how plants respond to climate change.
