Magic Wings (http://www.magicwings.com/) is a large indoor botanical garden with many different species of butterflies flying around. I went here a couple of years ago and it was a welcome escape from the winter cold! More photos from that day can be found on my website https://www.louiscalisi.photos/Subjects/Butterflies/
The butterflies are surprisingly not camera shy at all. I started the day using a big telephoto lens but a fast 50MM prime was more than enough. I could put my lens a 6 inches away and they didn't mind. There are also many tropical plants growing if you prefer that type of photography.
The greenhouses are surprisingly warm. I made the mistake of wearing a wool sweater and it was hot. I recommend a light sweater and a short sleeve shirt underneath.
Given it's still winter, the sun isn't too strong and the greenhouse diffuses the light so the contrast is quite manageable.
Magic Wings is in Deerfield, MA so driving there is a necessity. I live in Acton, MA so I can offer a ride for those of us who live North West of Boston. Please see their website for the entrance fee.
I'm happy to grab lunch with anyone who's interested after the meetup is over.
