What happens when AI joins the team? The potential for automation to boost productivity and take on the uninspiring menial activities in a job is tremendous. We'll consider how businesses effectively integrate automation into the human workforce and get the best out of each.

We’ll hear from Dennis Mortensen, CEO of x.ai, who’ll describe the future of work for knowledge workers involving managing and interacting with suites of intelligent agents, and from Peter Saber, a founding member of EY’s Tax Emerging Technology Lab on how to leverage RPA (Robotic Processing Automation).

Talk 1: AI agents are making us all managers

As the AI agents of the world get ever better and more autonomous, knowledge workers will increasing work with suites of intelligent AI agents to do their jobs faster and better than before. They'll need to understand how and when to hand over tasks to machines, how the agents process information, as well as norms of human/machine interaction. Dennis dives into what's happening now and what to expect in workplace automation.

Dennis Mortensen is the CEO and co-founder of x.ai. Dennis is an expert in leveraging data to solve enterprise use cases and a serial entrepreneur who’s successfully exited several companies on that theme. His long-term vision of killing the inbox led to the formation of x.ai and the creation of Amy + Andrew, artificially intelligent assistants who schedule meetings. He speaks frequently to anyone who’ll listen, from the crowds of Web Summit to his building’s doorman, about an optimistic future for AI, productivity, and the future of work.

Talk 2: Leveraging AI to rocket past human decision bottlenecks to RPA potential

RPA systems can give a great speed jumpstart automating common tasks, but can falter eventually at points where human judgment is needed to make a critical decision. Humans have relatively finite focus and multi-tasking capacity so very often the machine must wait for a human and response. There are ways to reduce the wait time for a human and response, and, in many cases, use machine learning to make the appropriate decision without the human. Peter gives a deeper understanding of how an ML model can help to reduce the wait and even free your humans from the burden of being on-call to an RPA process.

Peter Saber s a member of EY’s Global Tax Innovation Team and a founding member of EY’s Tax Emerging Technology Lab at Cambridge. EY is one of the largest Robotic Process Automation (“RPA”) users and many of their clients are quickly incorporating automation solutions within their tax functions. Pete is particularly focused on the intersection of RPA and AI, specifically in the areas of Natural Language Processing (NLP), Natural Language Generation (NLG) and Machine Learning. Pete brings 15+ years of experience with EY in varying roles, including working in Australia & New Zealand developing new practices based around emerging technology. Pete is also a CPA licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and a member of the Bar in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
