MapR / Mahout presented by Ted Dunning (http://www.mapr.com/company/management-team#teddunning) - MapR (http://www.mapr.com/) is a Hadoop distribution that has some interesting differences from the Apache and Cloudera distributions, particularly at the file system layer. Ted will be presenting on the internals of MapR. Ted is also one of the authors of the recently released Mahout in Action (http://www.amazon.com/Mahout-Action-Sean-Owen/dp/1935182684/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1317831312&sr=8-1) book and will also be sharing some insights on using Mahout.
-
Solbase presented by Matt Green and Kyungseog Oh - Solbase is an exciting new open-source real-time search system being developed at Photobucket.com to service the over 30 million daily search requests Photobucket handles. Solbase is based upon Lucene (http://lucene.apache.org/java/docs/index.html), Solr (http://lucene.apache.org/solr/) and HBase (http://hbase.apache.org/). This talk will discuss the basics of search technology and then give brief over view of Lucene, Solr and HBase. The discussion will then move on to an in-depth overview of Solbase itself, the obstacles that were overcome in its development, its basic architecture, and the current status and results of the project.
