Write to Publish, Publish to Sell: Anthologizing for Fun and Profit

By removing the need for gatekeepers and distributors, self-publishing truly rocked the writing world and provided authors with all the tools necessary to publish their books. Collecting shorter pieces into an anthology of work can be the ideal way for a writer to experience that process beginning to end, build their catalog or Amazon page, and better understand today’s challenging publishing market.

This workshop walks through every step of creating both a paperback and Kindle copy of an anthology via Amazon/KDP, though the skills scale to other platforms. We’ll also discuss ways to leverage your anthology to build your readership, platform and/or marketable skills.

Kate Jonuska is an indie author, freelance writer and yoga teacher as well as the current Vice President of the Rocky Mountain Fiction Writer Board. Her debut novel Transference was a finalist for the 2017 BookLife Prize, and the second edition of her Dictionary of Fiction Critique published in 2020.

Caitlin Berve is the multi-award-winning author of When Magic Calls: A Collection of Modern Fairy Tales. Through her company Ignited Ink Writing, she edits novels, creates video tutorials, teaches creative writing, and writes. She is the BWA Programs Chair. Caitlin seeks to fill the world with the kind of writing that lingers with readers and find magic in modern times.

Kate and Caitlin have published three anthologies with their 30th Street Fiction critique group: Proof (2017), Flight (2019), and Broken (2021).
