This is an open group for Colorado locals in recovery from any number of afflictions (eating disorders, alcohol, opioids, gambling, etc.) who are looking to lament/share/express/make sense or write out their stories, and share (or not!) with others in solidarity.
This group is for people who feel they have an easier time articulating (or making sense of) their lives with their pencil or laptop than with their voice. Ideally, writers will join together and choose from 1-2 proposed topics to write free form. We will close with shares, and gauging interest (or time permits), we will set aside time to read other recovery writers and discuss what makes their stories resonate (i.e. is it their writing style or their dialogue, prose, etc.?)
A little bit about me: My name is Lindsey Hall and I'm a 29-year old Boulder gal who majored in Creative Writing and has always found life more digestible through words. I have also been in recovery from an eating disorder for 4.5 years. Following a 6-week stint in treatment, I began to author an award-winning blog in 2014 called I Haven't Shaved In Six Weeks, and from that I have had the fortune of speaking and writing around the world since then, focusing on what I refer to as "the nitty gritty topics not often shared."
Through my writing, I have had the privilege of discussing nuanced topics such as Body Dysmorphic Disorder, Drunkorexia, Exercise Addiction, Orthorexia and other eating disorder behaviors, and I have been featured in publications including TODAY Show, CBS, Washington Post, Cosmopolitan, Women's Health, SheKnows, NEDA, SHAPE Magazine, Refinery29, and more. My future plans in recovery advocacy are currently focused on owning and converting a van to take it on the road, in a dream I've envisioned as "Recovery on the Road."
