Golang: September 2019

Golang: September 2019

Details

Hi everyone!

Our next Bowery Golang will take place on September 18th. All Go programming experience levels are welcome! The speakers below will allow time for questions, and please feel free to stick around and say hi after the presentations.

As per usual, we will have free beer on tap, delicious snacks, pizza and plenty of time for networking.

Presenters:
Jay Chen, Software Developer from Nulab NYC
"The Go-bindata Library": In this session, Jay will discuss the Go-bindata library, how to use it to build a single binary file containing both the server and website, and finally, how to "dockerize" and deploy the resulting binary.

Brendan O’Brien - Founder & Caretaker of qri.io
"Testing 201: Tips & Tricks for day-to-day testing in Go"
Let's take a high-level tour through a number of best practices for writing tests in Go, emphasizing lots of tiny lessons that make tests more effective. We'll explore small improvements on table tests, "story tests", data structure comparison, subtests and test coverage analysis.

Jonathan Amsterdam- member of the Go team at Google and co-designer of Go 1.13 error-wrapping support
"Error Wrapping in Go 1.13": The standard library for Go 1.13 introduces support for wrapping errors, making it easier to add information to an error while still preserving it for inspection by the program. I'll talk about why we added this feature, how it works, and how to use it in your code.

Event format:
6:00pm: Eat, drink, socialize
6:30pm: Presentation/Talks begin
Order: Jay Chen, Brendan O'Brien, Jonathan Amsterdam.
7:30pm: Networking continues
8:00pm: Wrap up and close
