Food for Fighting Stress

The Moonraker Hotel

Short term stress can be a positive thing for us humans, making us more alert in a job interview, or helping us avoid the danger of an encroaching tiger. However, when we face continuous challenges without any relief or relaxation in-between, it can lead to stress-related tension build-up which can have a negative effect on our health and wellbeing. Catrina Law, a final year nutritional therapist student, will be joining us to explore how the right nutrition can help us fight stress. Many illnesses including Eczema, Constipation, Depression, Diabetes Mellitus, Heart attack, High blood pressure, Indigestion, Menstrual difficulties, Migraine, Overactive Thyroid Gland, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Sleep Disturbances have all been linked to chronic stress. Our diet and lifestyle can have a major impact on the amount of stress we put upon our bodies, and its ability to cope and manage the stress it is subjected to. For instance, certain foods can raise our cortisol levels, whilst others can help to eliminate what we have circulating - reducing the long term damage it can have. In this session, we’ll explore the foods that help and the foods that hinder in the fight against stress and its impact on our health. There will be some science to help us understand why, but mostly foods to try, recipes to take home and some proven lifestyle advice that I hope will leave us all a little calmer, healthier and happier as we take on the challenges of modern-day life. Tickets are £5.00 and include a cuppa. We are meeting at Moonrakers Hotel as long as government guidance allows. If anything changes, this event will take place online. Seats are limited so please secure your place via our Eventbrite: https://mumonthly.eventbrite.co.uk There will also be a chance to network with other like-minded people. Any questions please contact Tanya on[masked]

Chinese Medicine Diet and Lifestyle Tips for Health and Wellbeing

The Moonraker Hotel

Chinese Medicine offers a holistic view of your body, mind, and soul. Assessing your body from a Chinese Medicine perspective can help you make changes to reduce the likelihood of illness in the future. According to traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), all aspects of a person's lifestyle including work, relationships, and daily habits are linked to health. In this workshop, you will receive information on: - Dietary tips specific to women's health - Simple lifestyle suggestions to reduce the effects of the common cold - Diet and lifestyle tips to boost your energy levels You will also have the opportunity to receive advice about any health-related issue that may be concerning you or a family member. The talk will be led by Acupuncturist and Shiatsu practitioner Sarah Kibble. Sarah has been in practice since 2004 and has clinics in Bath, Corsham, and Tetbury. Acupuncture and Shiatsu are based upon a healthcare system that has been practiced across East Asia for thousands of years. Using the principles of Chinese Medicine, this system looks at pain and illness as signs that the body is out of balance and aims to restore equilibrium. Acupuncture involves the use of fine needles and other techniques such as cupping, while Shiatsu combines acupressure with movements similar to those used in massage and Osteopathy.
