Welcome to the virtual Brighton Data Forum!

We are a socialising, networking, and skill-sharing community, bringing together local data professionals and organisations doing great work with data. We cover all topics of the data professions and offer a blend of (semi) formal presentations as well as friendly chatter and networking opportunities. Now and for the foreseeable future, our meetings will be conducted remotely via zoom. If you are interested in presenting to the forum, please email skarinn@yahoo.com.

We are excited to announce that this month’s headline speaker is Helen Cullis, Data Governance Lead. Helen is a passionate Data Governance professional, who has worked with data her whole career. Her start in data management was through clinical trials and medical research projects and she has more recently been working in higher education and financial services. She has formally been working in the Data Governance space since 2017 and absolutely loves it!

Helen’s talk will cover: An introduction to Data Governance, providing an introduction to the topic; what it’s all about and why it’s so important. Alongside, the key areas to consider when creating a Data Governance Framework and the processes this involves to ensure you effectively: collect, manage, secure, and store data.

This meeting's second speaker is Shuvechchha Ghimire, Founder of UNITEC Solutions, which provides customised chatbots to the UK institutions of higher education. She describes herself as pro automation and very enthusiastic about an AI-driven future. She invests a considerable amount of time in learning advances made in conversational AI. Shuvechchha's background is in Electronics and Computer Engineering, and she is an IET prize winning graduate from University of Brighton.

In her talk, titled "Chatbots - what to watch out for when building one for your company?", she will share UNITEC's learning experiences in building customised chatbots, domain-specific knowledge base and secure SaaS architecture around the state-of-the-art 3rd party NLP/NLU services.

Our bonus speaker is the forum's own Yagyansh Bagri.
Yagyansh is a recent graduate in Data Analytics and his thesis was on "Categorising Offensive Language in Social Media using Machine Learning". Yagyansh's presentation has taken a unique approach to how social media platforms could be a more habitable place to communicate.

As always, we welcome audience questions and participation. We will close the meeting with a communal informal chat.
