Japan: An Insider’s View on Travel

Details

Planning to visit Japan one day? Are you interested in off-the-beaten-path travel?

Join us to hear the views of writer, tour guide, and long-term Japan resident, Florentyna (Flory) Leow.

Flory, who grew up in Malaysia and studied in the UK before moving to Japan, will speak to us from her Tokyo home.

I (Tom) will host the event and introduce you all to Flory at the beginning.

Flory will talk for around 20–25 minutes about approaches to planning a trip to Japan and the merits of slow travel.

I will then ask some questions and invite questions from you all.

Flory’s profile:

Florentyna (Flory) Leow is a writer, tour guide, and travel consultant based in Tokyo. Her relationship with Japan began when she travelled to Japan in 2006 for a month-long homestay in Nogata (Fukuoka) and Kobe (Hyogo). She studied Japanese and art history at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London.

Barring a brief stint working a retail job in Tokyo, she has worked in and around the travel industry in Japan since 2015. Her writing has appeared in Japan Times, Roads and Kingdoms, Lucky Peach, and Boutique Japan, among others. She offers private consultations for Japan Travel Consulting, and occasionally leads private tours.

She writes a personal newsletter covering subjects from crows to chicken sandwiches to cycling.
