Tools and Tactics Discussion Evening
Details
An open event where we discuss what tools, methodologies and techniques Brighton Java developers are actually using. Learn about people's actual experiences with new technology, and separate the buzzwords from the game-changers. This event will be suitable for all levels of experience.
We will be opening the zoom at 5:30pm for people to gather and chat. The link will be sent out on the day of the talk. The event will begin around 6pm.
We have two panellists. Lee Turner from Crunch will give a short introduction to Kotlin. Laura Neale from Brandwatch will give a short intro to Kafka.
Laura is a Team Lead at Brandwatch, where she builds systems that ingest and analyse massive volumes of data. She works with technology like kafka, lucene and aws to handle all that data, cucumber and groovy for comprehensive integration tests, and of course a whole lot of open-source java libraries. She has been a backend developer for 6 years, and before that she studied A.I. and philosophy.
Lee is Lead Backend Developer at Crunch where he uses Java, Kotlin and Spring Boot to build solutions that help thousands of small businesses and freelancers. Programming has been a passion since age 6 and he has been a geek ever since. Lee is passionate about well tested, well crafted software and likes to think of himself as a pragmatic test driven developer. By night he is a Kotlin advocate and enjoys hacking code in his spare time along with organising the Brighton Kotlin user group.
