WOW! This BrisJS we have a huge speaker lineup! November is heating up and the talks are on fire! Thanks to an international volunteer, as well as amazing previews of conference topics, lightning talks, and incredible thought leaders of the NodeGirls scene, we have some cracking content to hear!
Join us and partake in pizza and drinks from our sponsors while networking with your peers.
⏱ Schedule:
6:15 PM - Arrive & mingle - wait at Gallery Level elevators for security to let you up (same level as the train station)
6:30 PM - Welcome & introductions by Kevin Vanderbeken
6:45 PM - Talks begin…
⚡️AI in JS - Sandra Arato (@SandraArato) - 20min
If you ever wondered about what neural networks and learning agents might do, and how they will solve the biggest problems humanity face, then you probably will need more than 20 minutes to fully appreciate the depth of data science. But each large project starts with a prototype, and for each big problem there is a scaled solution. In this talk, we take the baby steps to incorporate AI into your projects, and those steps are written in Javascript.
🖖Pushing the limits of memory in Node.js - Ashley Davis (ashleydavis75) - 10min
Node.js has memory limitations that you can hit quite easily in production. You'll know this if you ever tried to load a large data file into your Node.js application. But where exactly are the limits of memory in Node.js? In this short talk we'll push Node.js to it's limits and find out where those limits are. We'll also cover some practical techniques you can use to work around the memory limitations and get your data to fit into memory.
Pizza thanks to PCCW Global and Alcorn group! Drinks thanks to Just Digital People :-)
🔬Jest Beyond Tests - Simen Bekkhus (@SBekkhus) - 20min
More and more people are using Jest to run their JavaScript tests, but did you know it can also be used to run your linter and your compiler? Jest can even be used to run your tests written with Mocha or Python! This talk will explore how you can use Jest, or its individual parts, for more than just running your tests.
💫Design hacks for developers - Jamie Larchin (@jamielarchin__) - 10min
Would you consider yourself reasonably ‘design savvy’? Jamie gets to design and build awesome user experiences across really cool products and will be taking you through how she observes and reasons about design - this thinking became something she couldn't "un-see". If you’re interested in adding some design hacks to your developer toolbox, come and have some nerdy fun discussing all things web and design.
🏠How did the community help me find my next home? - Armagan Ersoz (@broccolinisoup) - 20min
Armagan currently works at RedEye Apps as a Front End Developer and enjoys developing web-based systems with JS. She is also an organiser of Muses CodeJS (ex NodeGirls) Brisbane. In this talk, Armagan will talk about the importance of communities and how communities help her find her next home (RedEye Apps) ❤️
