Booze and Books Monthly Meetup

The theme for June is the (European) settling of Australia. The book is “We of the Never Never”, by Mrs Aeneas Gunn. The library has only limited copies – hence the early posting.

Another one I’ve enjoyed is “Kings in Grass Castles” by Mary Durack, though one GoodReads review describes it as “a real slog”. If outback Australia has no resonance for you, I wouldn’t recommend it.

And I loved “Leviathon” by John Birmingham, of Felafel fame. As you can imagine, his descriptions are particularly vivid. Unfortunately, it’s quite long – but IMHO you could just read the first half and have got the best bits.
