What we're about

Drawing is one of the most satisfying skills you can learn.

I run a monthly 90 minute workshop at the State Library of QLD, where I will guide you through a series of unique drawing exercises. The exercises are designed to get you drawing with SOLIDITY and SUBSTANCE. The workshop covers the absolute fundamentals and is ideal for complete beginners. I do however adapt the exercises to the level of the student and people with more drawing experience can still gain a lot from these workshops.

My goal is to show that absolutely anyone can learn to draw so long as they have the passion and desire to do so, and to bring together people who love drawing and illustration.

People Sketching in The Mall

Queen Street Mall

Hi Everyone! August is going to be a special month! For the first time I'll be hosting an outdoor sketching adventure. This will be a FREE event, and everyone is welcome, whether you have taken workshops with me or not. There will be a limit of 8 people however, including myself (ie. Host plus 7 attendees). We'll meet for 2 hours and sketch people in Queen Street Mall Brisbane. Please be aware this is an untutored event. If you wish to have drawing tuition please check out my workshops, or any good art school. I look forward to seeing you there! -Christian ** Cost ** FREE However if we decide to sketch from a table at one of the Cafes in The Mall we would naturally be expected to purchase a drink or something to eat. No tickets needed, simply RSVP on Meetup, places available on a first come basis. ** Time ** We'll meet at 10:15 am, and then from 10:30am sketch for 2 hours ** Date ** Saturday August 24th ** Where ** Exact meeting point is yet to be decided. Once everyone has arrived on the day we'll head over to Queen Street Mall to begin sketching. ** Who ** Everyone is welcome, whether you have attended workshops with me or not. There will be a limit of 8 people including myself (ie. Host plus 7 attendees) Must be over 18 years of age. I won't be minding kids or acting as a guardian sorry. ** Tools ** Bring your own sketchbook, not too large, and ideally one with a fairly rigid backing. I use an A4 size sketchbook. Pens, pencils, brush pens etc. I recommend keeping your setup as simple and lightweight as possible. No easels, obviously! We don't want to be too conspicuous, or have to haul around a lot of gear. Remember hats, sunscreen etc. We should however be able to find plenty of shade in the mall. ** Why ** Sketching live is not for the faint hearted, but it's amazing practice for your visual memory. Since your subjects are not posing you have to work quickly and rely on your visual memory. Having said that, it's a lot of fun and producing finished pieces with a perfect likeness is not the point. It's about recording those details that were of interest and filling in the blanks yourself. It's also great for building your visual library of faces, clothing, hairstyles and so on. ** Questions / Contact ** If you have any questions please send a private Meetup message to me the host (Christian) or else contact me through my Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/drawnoutstories/ You can also contact me by phone on the day if you have any problems or questions at,[masked]
