What we're about
Upcoming events (5+)
Wednesday night gaming at The Drawbridge No sign-up required. Just turn up. 6pm onwards, though turn up anytime after that. Goes on till close - 10:30ish usually. Pub food served until about 9pm. Bring games if want to play them, but the regulars have a fair few between us. We are one of Bristol's oldest running Board Gaming groups (though we've moved venue a few times) and we cater for all types of games. Card games, Euros, Ameritrash, strategy, fillers etc. and we're always happy to teach games to new people. We normally get between 15-30 people though varied from week to week. Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/314218195420192/
You'll find us at the tables by the front door. We usually start with shorter games from 6.30, then start longer ones at[masked]. If you'll be arriving after 7ish or you can't come after all, please let us know on Meetup if you can. You can bring your own games but you don't have to. You don't need to know the games: we've always got somebody to teach them. The pub serves food till 9; it's OK to eat at a games table.
So Board In Bristol is the big monthly meet up for Board Games in Bristol. This happens on the last Sunday of each month at The Drawbridge pub in central bristol. Most organisation is done via the Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/144350515733794/ We are in the Function suite upstairs - get there by going up the stairs in the front entrance of the pub. No requirement to bring your own games, but if you do want to play anything particular, feel free to bring them along. If there's any longer games you want to organise in advance, then either here or on Facebook is a good idea. The Drawbridge serves food throughout the day and is good value. Please respect the pub and not bring in your own food or drink. It's busiest between 2pm and 6pm, but there's usually people there from start to end (12pm-10:00pm)
Fortnightly Monday Games @ Steam Every couple of weeks a group of us meet at Steam by Clifton Downs Station from 6pm. People new to the hobby are welcome, but you must be prepared/willing to accept that you might have to learn some moderately complex rules & game mechanics. Also some games might involve bluffing, social deduction and even outright lying! Finally no under 18's (licencing reasons) What Games? While games like snakes & ladders, monopopoly, charades, risk have had their day, board games have undergone a huge renaissance in the last 10 years. From Carcassonne, Catan & Codenames to Santorini, Scythe & Skull this is what we're about. Strategy, abstract, deduction, co-op, party... all are welcome. We recommend you bring one normal length game (max 3hrs) and one 'filler' game (max 30min) both that you love and are happy to teach others. The vunue is not really ideal for serious/longer games, RPGs & Campaigns, but you can definitely use this space to organise these elsewhere. Being a pub there is a bit of background noise and music. Timings: • Arrive between 6/6:30pm. Filler games until we think everyone is here. • Work out who's bought what and try and assign some tables for certain games so everyone gets to play what they've brought and so any newcomer/casual gamers can be on tables with people that know and can easily teach the games they have brought. • Settle down to play some awesome games • As people drop out of certain matches and games finish have some quick filler games on standby to keep people busy while we get enough players for the next game. • Don't worry if you can't make it till later, you probably wont be the only one and if you are just bare with us and we will try to get you involved in a game asap. Terms & Conditions: • Any drinks & food consumed must be bought in the venue (Steam does not currently serve food on Mondays, so it may be possible to ask if it's OK to order in) • No inappropriate behaviour & activities will be tolerated and will result in instant ejection & banning from the group & venue • The venue can take no responsibility for any damage/loss to games or property that occur at the venue (Check out North Bristol Games on Facebook for more info and as a place to post about and organise your gaming adventures)
