Brooklyn Contra w/ live music by Fleeting Moments and Penelope Weinberger!
We'll see you on Friday the 14th with 70 of our closest friends for a dance with Fleeting Moments and Penelope Weinberger! If it weren’t for the darn caller, the Fleeting Moments would never stop playing. But their time with their dancers is short, so they make the most of it by squeezing in all their favorite Quebecois rockers and interspersing them with feel-good Old Time jams that just want to go on forever. Eric Boodman’s bouyant fiddling and Emily Troll’s ambi-instrumental artistry on fiddle and accordion keep the tunes flowing while Jon Cannon’s spicy guitar work lays down driving rhythms to keep the party pumping. And when the boys get that Quebecois feelin’ (which Eric comes by honestly), you may get an earfull of foot percussion from as many as four happy feet. Life is too short to miss the Fleeting Moments. WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? If Swing dancing and Square dancing met in a bar, you’d get Contra! Contra dancing is a type of community folk dance. You’ll dance to live music with a partner, but bringing a partner is not necessary. Contra Dancing is a great way to meet new people! More info can be found at Tickets can be bought at: Tickets always available at the door! Folks who haven't danced before are encouraged to attend the introductory lesson at 7:30pm, which is followed by dancing for everyone from 8:00 to 11:00pm. To maintain the beautiful floor at Camp Friendship, please bring clean, soft-soled shoes. Hard soles and heels are very hard on our floor. General admission is $15 and student tickets are $12 Volunteers dance for FREE – if you’re interested in volunteering, please email us at [masked]
