What we're about

Visit our website, TheGizmoDojo.com (http://thegizmodojo.com) and support our Kickstarter (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thegizmodojo/the-gizmo-dojo?ref=nav_search)!!

We are trying to create a fun and welcoming place to come together and bring fantastic creations to life. Some of our meetups have included learning about Arduino, knitting, sewing, 3D printers, and Linux, making crepe paper roses, chainmaille, and jewelry, and working on a CNC router, as well as attending Maker Faires all over Colorado and visiting with our neighbor makerspaces. We are currently hanging out at the Broomfield Library and at a garage in Northglenn, but we are hunting for an affordable space we can rent.

The communities built around makerspaces are typically filled with makers with many different fields of expertise. That expertise is shared among the members through classes and workshops, as well as through informal hangouts. Makers themselves come in many shapes and sizes, and makers may not even know they are makers until they are given the opportunity to create something! Lots of Makerspaces are home to entrepreneurs who are starting their own businesses creating brand new products. The community will include makers from all ages and capabilities, all sharing the common goal of wanting to have fun and make things.

Spread (https://www.facebook.com/TheGizmoDojo)the word (https://twitter.com/TheGizmoDojo), get excited (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thegizmodojo/the-gizmo-dojo?ref=nav_search), and start making things (http://thegizmodojo.com/)!

Monday Maker Meeting - open to the public

The Gizmo Dojo

Hey Makers, It's the weekly meeting! Come hang out and work on your projects. If you don't have a project currently, then come see what other people are working on. Come and get to know your fellow makers! I try to have something interesting going on at every meeting, like a 5-10 minute presentation from one of you, or a project that someone has worked on, or just me ranting about some random topic to try to give you some new knowledge. I'm open to any ideas or requests, and if you want to speak about something, please let me know ([masked]).

Intro to the Laser Cutter

The Gizmo Dojo

Come learn how to use our laser cutter to create your very own wood cutout or engraving. This class will teach you how to operate our 32W CO2 laser cutter safely and certify you to use it on your own. Details: Where: The Gizmo Dojo workshop (downstairs) Time: Every last Saturday of the month. 10:00 am - 12:30 pm Duration: up to 3 hours Cost: $18 for members, $20 for non-members (please prepay for the class at http://thegizmodojo.com/classes/) Prerequisites: None. Zilch. Zip. Nada. Come one, come all. Ages: 16 & up Materials: All you need to bring is a flash drive with any pictures (black and white, high contrast pictures work best) you want to engrave saved as a jpeg. If you have a laptop to use, it may help. If you have a piece of wood you prefer to use, you can feel free to bring that in too, but we will have some for you to use. Description: The laser cutter is a great tool if you want to engrave or cut materials. However, there are a few things you need to know to keep yourself and other members safe while you use it. This class will cover the proper use of the machine as well as the materials that are appropriate for cutting and engraving. Time permitting, we'll have a little hands-on time with the machine for each of the students. By the end of the class, you'll be able to use the machine on your own with confidence. If you would like to take the class, please RSVP on Meetup, and prepay here: http://www.TheGizmoDojo.com/classes About the Teacher: Andy is a former high school teacher who now organizes STEAM Education activities and is the Education Coordinator for The Gizmo Dojo. Andy is also involved with STEAM Fest, CSED Week and maker faires.
