What we're about

Great news! Dallas has been chosen as Brother Hackathon location for our 2019 season. After a successful hackathon in Los Angeles, California in 2018, we have been seeking a great city for our 2019 event. Among 10 cities, Dallas is selected unanimously by our committee. This meetup group is set up to:

1. Find co-organizers, assistant organizers, event managers and volunteers

2. Each month we will hold at least 1 live event in Dallas, including workshop, showcase, seminars, and happy hours

3. Allow members to register the hackathon event with priority

When

Hackathon: From 6PM April 26th through 9PM April 27th (27 hours)

Workshops/Seminars: January (2 events), February (2 events), March (3-6 events), April (2 events)

The meetup group will officially launch in January 1, 2019. Accepting members now. 100% free, and will ALWAYS be free.

iOS and Android developers. UX/UI Designers. Web developers. A team can be a single member, or up to 3 members.

What

Hackathon, Workshop, Seminars, Showcases. Hackathon is to build an iOS or Android app that utilizes Brother International's mobile printers. One or more printers will be provided to each team for testing purpose. These printers are free to keep after completing the event.

All our events are 100% free, with free food, drinks, prizes, and everything. All meetups will be focused on the hackathon event. There is no commitment, just plenty of fun learning and competing among members/friends.

Why Brother?

We are the most developers friendly company! Unlike any other hackathons, we make sure that you can get your first sample project running in less than 2 hours. Then the sky is the limit, we want you to focus on your creativity. Not only you get to keep 100% of your project, we may even consider supporting your project via our international resources. Of course, you get to keep the Brother's professional mobile printer, and a great chance to win big prizes!

How?

1. Spend 10 seconds and grab a free ticket from Eventbrite.com HERE (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/brother-hackathon-dallas-tickets-54322970467)

2. Spend 2 minutes and sign up to Devpost.com to Register for the Hackathon (https://brother-hackathon-dallas.devpost.com/)

3. Spend 2 minutes and register as Brother's Developer and download the SDK HERE (https://developerprogram.brother-usa.com/Registration.aspx) enter "Hackathon Dallas" under Company Name

4. Spend an hour to build the sample iOS or Android app. Think of an app that can make the most of the Brother's professional printers. Design, prototype, and build the app as much as you can. Shoot a 3-minute video of your app and submit it to Youtube and provide the link at the competition. You must be present on both days April 26 and 27 to win.

Brother Hackathon Workshop(s)

WeWork

Now we have less than 45 days to the hackathon, you still have plenty of time to plan, design, and develop your iOS/Android app. At this event, we will dive right into the Q&A with 2 mini workshops - coding and UX/UI. Two Brother International executives/engineers will be present to answer any questions you have. Time to pick up your hardware kit. You will have a chance to test your apps with a variety of Brother's label and mobile printers. It will be so much fun seeing them in action. You will be inspired! Hackers in style? Come pick and choose your hackathon attire. Customize it with embroidery patches, fabric labeling, and proudly present it in your video. I personally added a new category - Best Hackathon Attire award, and the winner will receive a DJI OSMO II. Look carefully in the image above. Can anyone tell me what is that thing at the bottom of the image? hint: 6". Anyone who guesses it will win the device, to be tested with your Android app. Two prizes available: one for the first one who guesses it, the second one for the first one who successfully install his/her app on it and print on the available Brother printer. We will have so much fun. Come with a big smile and leave with a bigger one! Check-in Please check in at the WeWork front desk located on the 3rd Floor of parking garage G.
