Grand debate: Immigration

Details
Grand Debates are special. You get the exact motion in advance so that you can pick a side and prepare as a team. If you want and can commit to take part, please leave a comment below and indicate whether you want to speak for the government or opposition.
The Italian deputy prime minister has refused to take more migrants. In Hungary, Orban has criminalised offering aid to asylum seekers. The USA elected a business man with a chequered past to executive office, propelled there by shouts of ‘build that wall’. In Germany, Merkel’s coalition partners face losing power in Bavaria for the first time since the war, while Austria’s new Head of State is a 33 year old populist, on a mission to restore ‘European values’.
Immigration is a government changer. This is not new. Fear of the other has been used to whip up the mob since time immemorial. But considering the examples from above, we must ask whether the tipping point has been reached.
But does it need to be this way? No country in the world has not been the target of immigration at some point or other; we all came from somewhere else. Is immigration a threat, or an investment?
Join us tonight as we debate the motion "This House, as the world government, would put no restrictions on people’s freedom to chose in which country they reside".
The venue is fully accessible for wheelchair users. All levels of experience are welcome - from first-timers to experienced debaters. Practice public speaking with fun!
