September meetup: Real-time transaction streaming and Big Data in Bioinformatics

Details
Hello Everybody,
just before the august holidays, we are happy to announce our new meetup in September, with 2 very interesting presentations bringing new subjects in our meetup: Apache Kudu - the new kid in big data town for fast analytics and how Scala/Spark can be used in genomics and genetic engineering. Many thanks to Cosmin and Anton for taking time to present in our community.
Details of the meetup below:
6:30 - 7:00 Gathering and socializing
7:00 - 7:40 Real-time transaction streaming in retail using Streamsets - Kafka - Kudu - Zoomdata, Cosmin Pintoiu (https://www.linkedin.com/in/iulian-cosmin-pintoiu-303bab23), Big Data Solutions Architect @ Bigstep
Kudu datastore provides fast inserts/updates and efficient columnar scans that enable real-time analytics workloads across a single storage layer. We’ll present a solution that streams retail point of sale transactions to drive an interactive real-time executive dashboard using Kudu, Impala and Zoomdata among others. We'll discuss the design decisions behind each of these components and the lessons learned.
7:40 - 8:20 Bigdata in bioinformatics: Computational Biology of Aging Group, Anton Kulaga (https://www.linkedin.com/in/antonkulaga/), bioinformatician @ Computational Biology of Aging Group and Chronos Biosystems
Anton will tell about the big data in bioinformatics (origins of data, common tools, application and also why it can be important for each of us and for the Future of Humanity) and will show some of the big data tools and projects developed by the lab.
8:20 - 9:00 Pizza and after presentations socializing
Look forward seeing you all in September,
Valentina
