February Meetup: Apache Mesos, big data architecture, ...

Details
Hello everybody,
I hope you started 2018 with loads of energy! Our meetup restarts in February and we're happy to have, besides new subjects, as well new speakers and we're trying out a bit different format.
On February 20th we will have as guests Matt Jarvis (Director of Community and Evangelism @ Mesosphere) to talk about Apache Mesos, Alex Bordei (Director of Product and Development @ Bigstep) will try to simplify the design of big data architectures and Catalin Matei (founder and CEO @ Increase Media) will ask for our feedback on a service/app he's trying to build. So, a full agenda. See the details below and we look forward seeing you once more in our meetup.
Please note: This meetup will be in english.
18:30 - 19:00 Gathering
19:00 - 19:35 Apache Mesos, Matt Jarvis (https://www.linkedin.com/in/mattjarvis08/) @ Mesosphere
Apache Mesos is a distributed system for running other distributed systems, often described as a distributed kernel. It's in use at massive scale at some of the worlds largest companies like Apple, Netflix, Uber and Yelp. DC/OS is an open source distribution of Mesos, which adds all the functionality to run Mesos in production across any substrate, both on-premise and in the cloud. In this talk, I'll introduce both Mesos and DC/OS and talk about how they work under the hood, and what the benefits are of running these new kinds of systems for emerging big and fast data workloads.
19:35 - 20:10 Simplicity in Big Data, Alex Bordei (https://www.linkedin.com/in/alexandrubordei/) @ Bigstep
Big data projects are synonyms with complexity. Designing simple solutions is far more challenging than throwing a new technology into the mix. In this talk, we’ll look at architectures or technologies that apply to a wider array of problems. Incidentally, the simple solutions are also the best place to start for beginners.
20:10 - 20:25 Feedback on a data app, Catalin Matei (https://www.linkedin.com/in/catalinmatei1/) @ Increase Media
Catalin is the CEO & founder of a social media company, being in the early stages of building an app to support the decisions part of their analytics process. He will talk about the input data and the idea of the app and he is looking for feedback from the community.
Look forwards seeing you all soon and a big thanks to our speakers for taking the time and putting the effort to come and present in our meetup. Also, thanks to our steady sponsor Netopia.
All the best in 2018,
Valentina
