What we’re about
This is a group for anyone willing to learn and share ideas and expertise in Machine Learning. The members practice ML inside academia, industry or as a hobby. Our current focus is on Vision (deep learning network architectures), Visual QA, NLP and Reinforcement Learning. On medium term, we want to extend our topics to other ML areas such as Unsupervised Learning, Transfer Learning and Memory Networks.
During our meetups, presenters will share state-of-the-art papers and results, will present our own research projects, papers and ideas. The main objective of the meetups is to foster conversations related to ML topics between academia and industry, between beginners and experts, between theoreticians (including mathematicians) and practitioners.
We hope that by creating and growing a true ML community all of us will foster, we will be able to have more collaborations and to grow together.

Dariu Gavrila is visiting Romania and is giving a talk on Self-driving cars.
Over the past 25 years, Dariu has focused on visual systems for detecting humans and their activity, with application to intelligent vehicles, smart surveillance and social robotics. He led the multi-year pedestrian detection research effort at Daimler, which was commercialized in the Mercedes-Benz S-, E-, and C-Class models (2013-2014, PreSafe Brake®) and which currently saves lives and reduces injuries on the road. He now performs research on self-driving cars in complex urban environments and focuses on the anticipation of pedestrian and cyclist behavior. Since 2016 he heads the Intelligent Vehicles group at the TU Delft as a Full Professor.Speaker: Dariu Gavrila
