I will admit it - my name is Maria, and I have a hang gliding problem. I did it three times last summer, and I love it more and more each time.

This is my Mom, who came out last fall!

Hang gliding is so fun and exhilarating - and if you feel up to it, it is VERY cool to take the controls and fly the kite! (The pilot is there to back you up, so don't worry!) The views are breathtakingly beautiful. It is peaceful and secure... more like meditation than an extreme sport. Even people who are afraid of heights love it.

Not thrilled at the thought of running off a cliff? Well, luckily they use a state of the art high-powered winch to tow us up. The winch is designed specifically to tow hang gliders. It's the safest method of launching a hang glider. The rapid climb it creates is also very exhilarating! The glider is launched from a flat field so no running is required... then roll in for a gentle landing on the wheels.

Why Waterloo and not someplace a little closer to Toronto? There are other places we could go that are 15 mins closer but the reviews online were horrific and Instinct has been a dream to work with for 4 years now. They care about safety, but also that everyone has a great time! Mark from Instinct is on here, so if you have any questions, we have the expert handy!

Here is Cristina, strapped in and ready to go! She was a daredevil and asked the pilot to do loads of swoops and sharp turns etc. How thrilling your flight is depends on YOU and what you are looking for!

HOW IT WORKS: You are towed (think of a kid, running with a kite) up to approximately 1500 feet above the ground where you then release the line and you are free! The ride up is as fun as the ride down. The flight is then a peaceful coast to the ground, OR if you want some thrills, it will shorten your flight time, but the pilot can show you some fun moves, aka "The rollercoaster"!

All the gear, helmet, harnesses and glider are included. There is the option to pay $25 cash/ credit card on the day for a mini sd card with photos and video of your flight!

*** The weight limit of the passenger is 230 pounds. If you are over 180lbs and there is little or no wind they may need to reschedule your flight ***

Cost is $180.80 all inclusive. ($5.79 is added for PayPal payments only, to cover their fees)

Part of the fun is hanging out with other members and cheering them on - so despite the timings, feel free to arrive any time after 11am, and stay as long as you want! Bring a chair and some drinks/snacks - make a day if it!

The weather and specifically the WIND is a key factor in this sport. Keeping an eye on the weather will never be more important than on this day! We will keep you posted on whether or not the winds are in our favour that day. If the event must be postponed, we will reschedule for another day. But, hopefully Mother Nature is on our side! :)

Here is Dutch, waving to one of our hang gliders as they came in for landing last summer!

If you are in need of carpooling just add a comment below... there is usually someone willing to help out. If you are able to drive please do the same. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE... make final arrangements through the message tab in the members meetup profile so everyone else doesn't get bombarded with comment emails that don't concern them. Make sure you swap cell numbers as well. :)

This is going to be so awesome.

Hope to see you there.
