This is a support group for survivors from discovery to recovery of narcissistic abuse whether it be from a parent, sibling, partner or colleague.
Narcissistic Personality Disorder is mainly undiagnosed as the person with the disorder rarely presents to a therapist as “there’s nothing wrong with me, it’s everybody else”! It’s a criteria based diagnosis in the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders). If you’ve been around someone who gaslights you and makes you question your sanity, has frightening rages at perceived slights, makes you feel like you are walking on eggshells, belittles you, is very controlling, has delusions of grandeur ( thinks they are better than everyone else), creates a smear campaign against you if you question their character, has a charming/caring side to the outside world which again makes you question yourself, you may have encountered someone with NPD.
This disorder is insidious and erodes your sense of self! Nearly 4 years ago this realisation about my father made sense of much of my life, I’ve researched and educated myself on the subject ever since as well as removing him from my life
The journey from discovery to recovery can be very frightening, isolating and extremely difficult to articulate to anyone who has been fortunate enough not to have a narcissist in their life.
A fellow survivor wrote "I fully understand the roller coaster of emotions and sense of isolation we can experience, as we are often called crazy, hyper-sensitive and gas lighted along the way . I believe a key part within the healing process is to exchange personal stories with those who have an understanding of the pain that narcissistic abuse can cause. This validation is often of vital importance in our recovery process from narcissistic abuse"
I hope this group can support you along the long road from discovery to recovery to thriving from this hideous, misunderstood, devious personality disorder and remember it is their shame, guilt and disgusting behaviour to carry, not yours.
