Medium hike including the highest points of the Pilis (Pilis-tető, 756m) and the Visegrád Hills (Dobogókő, 699m).
Plan: Pilisszántó bus terminal -> Pilis-tető -> Vaskapu-szikla (giant rocks) -> Dobogókő. At Dobogókő we stop at a restaurant where you can buy food cooked outside in big cauldrons, buy strudels, or just eat your sandwich, if you like. From Dobogókő there are buses to Pomáz at every hour, and from Pomáz you can get back to Budapest by the suburban railway line HÉV H5. There will likely be an optional continuation for those who want to get a few more kms into their legs. Plan to be decided on the spot.
Distance: 12km, cumulative elevation: 800m.
Difficulty: MEDIUM. You need to have some hiking experience, and have enough strength and stamina to handle long and steep climbs (the hike starts with a rather steep 500m climb). We will aim at keeping an average speed of around 3 km/h.
Meeting: 09:46 at the Pilisszántó bus terminal. You can get there by Volán bus no. 821, starting from Árpád-híd bus terminal at 08:50 (Pest side, next to M3 subway station "Göncz Árpád városközpont"). You need to buy your ticket at the ticket office or from the vending machines before boarding the bus. The bus also stops on the Buda side, at Flórián-tér, and various other locations (see menetrendek.hu); if you board the bus there, you can buy your ticket from the driver. Pilisszántó bus terminal is the final stop of the bus; I will meet you there.
What to bring: Food, snacks and drink for the duration of the hike. Cash for the bus in small denomination (the ticket one way is around 400 HUF, but better prepare more).
