What we're about
Everyone agrees that Meditation is good for you. Why not join us and see for yourself?
As part of the community of international meditation centres established by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, our goal is to practice and make available the Shambhala teachings. We provide meditation trainings, contemplative art courses, community events and family programs.
Shambhala welcomes people from all walks of life, faiths, and backgrounds. They come together to practice meditation, gather, and celebrate in order to develop a global culture that cultivates dignity and sanity in an increasingly chaotic and stressful world.
What is Shambhala?
“the Shambala meditation teachings are based on the principle that there is a basic human knowledge that can aid in solving problems of the world.”
(Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche)
This knowledge is not assumed to originate from any one culture, faith, or practice of meditation . The kindness and warmth of each individual can be enclosed by apprehension and self-centeredness. The journey to becoming completely human requires that one observe through this apprehension and awaken to discover the natural intelligence. The journey of awakening is called the path of the warrior, because of the courage required to face one’s own mind. The Shambhala path of meditation requires the practitioner to learn various other practices of meditation also. This contemplation assists us to break through old habits and self-image, to awaken completely to the bliss of living in the world.
Shambhala is also a global community of people inspired by this principle that every human being has a fundamental nature of basic goodness.
“The path of Shambhala is here to awaken us to the potential of our lives. It teaches us how to live meaning fully and vigorously, with joy. Its ancient but practical wisdom allows us to discover unconditional human confidence. Through the practice of meditation, we discover that goodness, strength, and wisdom are inherent in our own mind and being. Having gained this insight, we are able to maneuver through life with courage, intelligence, and compassion. Daily life becomes an opportunity to further cultivate these qualities. In Shambhala this journey is exemplified by the tiger, lion, garuda, and dragon—four animals that each reveal to us a specific wisdom. As we fully realize these enlightened qualities, we are able to rouse them for a world that desperately needs this knowledge and experience. I look forward to working with you as we make this journey together.”
