Iron Reign – High Power High School Robotics! & Bonus Preso - Computer Vision

Details

DPRG hosts cool presentations each month during its regular membership meeting. These meetings and presentations are open to public and free to attend.

Be sure to bring your middle-school thru high school kids to pump them up for robotics in this months meeting.

Famed High School Robotics team Iron Reign will kick off the meeting, and touch on:

  1. What is this First Tech Challenge (FTC) this year?
Hint – check out “Rover Ruckus”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCjur2-knp0

  2. What is the World Championship like?

  3. Iron Reign judging presentation - the team will share a 15 minute dense presentation of their activities over the season. The team would appreciate feedback on how they can improve their presentation.

  4. More demo of the robot and discussion of some of its build features including its high torque arm, its superman subsystem and eventual hopes for balancing.

  5. Discussion of the Android control system. FTC teams use Android phones paired into a robot controller for autonomous and low-level behaviors and a driver station for remote control and telemetry.

Iron Reign is experimenting with OpenCV, Tensor Flow, Vuforia and is working on a custom CNN to detect game elements.

All Iron Reign vision algorithms run on the robot controller phone.

After Iron Reign sets their typical high bar, DPRG members Clay and Ray will discuss the computer vision strategy and code they’ve been working on for the DPRG Challenge Line Following competition.

With his “Raspberry Eye” robot as an example, Clay will start with the basics of line following, and work through the difficulties that give the Challenge Course it’s well-earned name.

We hope to see you there. Everyone is welcome to attend.
