SO WHAT IS BURBSECCON?
The BurbSec organization celebrates hacking, privacy, and information security each and every week, and we thought "what better way to unwind after THOTCON than to open our doors, enjoy a local pint, and celebrate Chicago's InfoSec community with old friends and new?"
BurbSecCon, just like BurbSec itself, is an informal hangout at a local pub that has been growing in popularity and fun every year. Unlike BurbSec, we have free beer and coffee, game shows, an open mic (for presentations), and... "stuff."
THOTCON draws in many infosec enthusiasts from well outside the Chicagoland region, making this a particularly anticipated event, and we'd love to give these travelers a reason to stay and check out our beautiful city through the weekend.
Once we're finished here, you'll be in Logan Square, one of the most happening neighborhoods in the city, and just a 1-mile walk or train ride from Wicker Park, which is also pretty darn hip.
IS THIS A "B-SIDES?"
NO. BurbSecCon is not affiliated with, and will definitely not have the formality of a typical B-Sides.
SO WHAT WILL IT HAVE?
Geeks! Nerds! Muggles! Boating enthusiasts! The primary purpose of the event is to be a "super-chill, low-key" hangout at a small bar.
• A NEW VENUE!!!
• FREE FOOD AND OPEN BAR (including some GREAT beers) courtesy of our incredibly generous sponsors! You're also welcome to bring your own food into the venue (or order delivery).
• A single, first-come-first-served open-mic stage with a projector. = See a staff member once you arrive if you'd like t present! Non-infosec talks are preferred!
• The return of the BRING YOUR OWN BADGE CONTEST!! Literally, bring anything you can hang around your neck; we don't care. Prizes will be awarded for the best homemade badges!
• Games!
• Whatever else we drunkenly invent!

BurbSecCon will be held in one of Chicago's most popular neighborhoods, Logan Square, at:

• For the public-transit-minded, we're about 2 blocks from the California AV Blue Line stop. Note the Blue Line can also take you all the way into O'Hare, so bring your bags!
SO HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
NOTHING! BurbSec prides itself on never asking for attendees' money for any reason. We attempt to eliminate all barriers to entry into the community.
We will be enforcing a strict Bring-Your-Own-Badge policy, so make your own badge for the contest or bring a badge from home you feel is the most (in)appropriate.
