What we're about
This group is dedicated to my lifelong friend, Patrick Wanninkhof, who, while cycling across the US to raise money for affordable housing efforts with a charity organization, was killed by a distracted driver. In honor of those lost to drunk, drugged, and distracted driving, and their friends and families, our goal is to unite communities and provide spaces, education, and engagement to prevent deaths by distracted driving and act as a reminder that we share the road with others.
How Can You Help?
Engage - in conversations about road safety and experiences (as a pedestrian, rider, or motorist), join a community or part take in events/gatherings to support awareness and action, refrain from driving under the influence or distracted and help others do the same, turn on text message and/or call blocking when driving (come phones are equipt or find a helpful app.)
Educate - take moments to educate yourself and others, share the knowledge
Pledge - make a personal or public commitment to withdraw from driving under the influence or distracted, find accountability in family, friends, or local/online communities to hold a strong level of commitment
Advocate - find ways to spread the word and encourage action, add a signature to your text messaging or e-mail indicating you support the "#ButNotWhileDriving" movement
We look forward to meeting you, making friends, and finding peace and joy empowering one another to practice safety while on the road.
