GraphQL in production: KLM & Bynder cases

Together with our friends from KLM (https://www.meetup.com/schiphol-developers/) we're happy to announce an advanced GraphQL (http://graphql.org/) meetup. We're sure you've seen other companies using GraphQL and heard about their experience, maybe you've tried to play with it yourself (if not try it, it's so easy!). This time we'd like to share KLM and Bynder experience working on GraphQL based applications that thousands of people are using every day.

Some basics

What's GraphQL, how to set it and how can you benefit from using it. Is it an ultimate solution or are there cases where GraphQL won't do its best. What made KLM and Bynder decide to switch to GraphQL. Which problems have we faced or are we still facing. And what do we think about it a few months after the first production release.

It's a frontend related meetup, but we will also talk about backend and general architectural concepts. In a discussion about client-server communication it feels right to pay enough attention to both sides. However backend programming experience isn't needed to attend these talks.

Beyond basics

• Persistent queries: query whitelisting and reduced bandwidth usage.
• Optimistic UI: make the interface respond much faster.
• Connecting React components to GraphQL with wrappers: improvements beyond default Apollo frontend implementation.
• GraphQL Subscriptions: a way for a client to subscribe on async server events.
