Where Do Cryptocurrencies Derive Value & Are We In a Bubble? (DLT Thursday)
Details
We're thrilled to have Matthew Gertler, Senior Analyst and Counsel at Digital Asset Research (https://www.digitalassetresearch.com/))guest speak at this event in which we'll explore the value of cryptocurrencies and analyze if we are in a bubble. The evening is part of regular "DLT Thursday" series held at Byte Academy (DLT is short for Digital Ledger Technology of which blockchain is a type).
About the Evening: There has been an explosion of interest in cryptocurrencies and digital assets. Year to date, Bitcoin is up 4x, Ethereum is up 40x and the market cap of all tokens has increased from about $20 billion to more than $150 billion. There are more than 800 cryptocurrencies and many more are on the way. Questions everyone seems to be asking are “From where do cryptocurrencies derive their value?” and “Are we in a bubble?”
At this event, Senior Analyst and Counsel at Digital Asset Research (https://www.digitalassetresearch.com/)), Matthew Gertler, will go over a basic framework to help attendees identify the value propositions of individual cryptocurrencies and the problems they are trying to solve. Once attendees can answer, “From where do cryptocurrencies derive their value,” Matthew will discuss how network effects are likely key contributing factors to the increase in market cap and whether he thinks we are in a bubble.

He helps produce reports by performing the legal and regulatory analysis of assessing legal risk differentials across tokens. He is also a frequent speaker on the legal and compliance issues surrounding digital assets and served as Vice President on the Digital Currency Council. About Digital Asset Research (: Digital Asset Research (DAR), is a research firm that publishes unbiased, institutional-quality research reports on cryptocurrencies and digital assets. It is often difficult to find sufficient information to make an informed investment decision about certain tokens and it takes expertise in a wide range of areas to fully understand how this information works together. DAR has assembled a team of technical, finance, economic and legal experts to help make sense of this information so that its clients can be as well informed as possible before investing. DAR hopes to grow its technical team in the future, so anyone interested in entering the cryptocurrency space is encouraged to attend.
