We're thrilled to have Matt Gertler, attorney at Digital Asset Research (https://www.digitalassetresearch.com/), a research firm that publishes unbiased, institutional quality research reports on cryptocurrencies and other digital assets return to Byte Academy as a guest speaker.
Mr. Gertler will discuss blockchain, cryptocurrencies and ICOs (Initial Coin Offering) during the evening with a regulatory focus. He'll provide insight into the Security Exchange Commission's (SEC) July ruling which claimed that some "coins" are actually securities and subject to SEC regulation. He'll explain what this means for investors and the overall cryptocurrency market, and, provide tips on executing an ICO while staying compliant with regulations. There will be time for Q&A from the audience.
About the speaker: Matthew Gertler is a Senior Analyst and Counsel at Digital Asset Research, a research firm that publishes unbiased, institutional quality research reports on cryptocurrencies and digital assets. As a cryptocurrency professional, he focuses on the laws, rules and regulations surrounding cryptocurrencies and other digital assets, in addition to those affecting the companies that create and use such assets. He helps produce reports by performing the legal and regulatory analysis of assessing legal risk differentials across tokens. He is also a frequent speaker on the legal and compliance issues surrounding digital assets.
Before joining Digital Asset Research, he was a finance associate at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy, an associate at Promontory Financial Group and worked in-house for the financial technology companies Venmo and Earnest. Matthew holds a BA in Economics and History from the University of California, Los Angeles and a JD/MBA from the University of Southern California. He is a member and former Vice President of the Digital Currency Council.
