Script Workshop
Once a month, we filmmakers get together for an electrifying event. We read up to 30 pages of two scripts, that are provided by local writers, in a cold, table read. This is a great opportunity for writers to hear their scripts out loud, read by a variety of voices. We give immediate and actionable feedback that will help with the next draft. Actors will practice their cold-reading skills and connect with filmmakers. We read everything: shorts and features, series and episodic shows, screenplays, radio shows and stage plays. Writers, producers, directors, editors, actors and other filmmaking crew members are encouraged to attend. We also discuss topics that can help any writer improve upon their talent, such as books, writing software and techniques. Members who have paid the annual membership of $25 to the Carolina Film Community (Charlotte Film Community) have free access to the group. All other guests and meetup members pay $5 at the door. (This goes towards paying for our venue) About the Venue: We meet at NC Music Factory. It's a wonderful cowering space with meeting rooms are the perfect location to get together for script readings. Parking is free.

What we're about

CFC Workshops are made possible by a donation of time and resources from Charlotte Film Community ( Many thanks to our generous sponsors!!

Who should come to a workshop?

For scriptwriters, CFC Workshops provide an opportunity to observe any issues in your script. In addition, member critiques will provide both the general perspective of an audience as well as the informed perspective of other writers and industry professionals. While attendees should be prepared to provide constructive feedback, writers must be prepared to receive it graciously.

Actors can also benefit from these workshops as practice for cold readings as well as to possibly get a foot in the door for an upcoming production. Think of these workshops as informal auditions. Directors and producers are also welcome to come share their perspectives on what a good producible script should look like. And you never know what great new writer, script, or connection might come out of these meetings.

How do I get on the workshop schedule?

Writers who'd like to have a script read must have attended at least one workshop within three months prior to his/her workshop date. Each scheduled writer will be given 30 minutes to workshop any script within that timeframe (a short script, the first act of a feature, a troublesome scene). If you have a script you'd like to get on the schedule, please email the following: (1) the working title and logline, (2) character breakdowns for major characters, and (3) estimated content rating (G, PG, R). Actors are NOT asked to prepare beforehand -- cold reads only!

Please note -- You are responsible for bringing copies of your script for yourself and each of your actors to your scheduled workshop date.

When and where do you meet?

Please become a member to view details and to RSVP for the workshops. Becoming a member on meetup will give you access to more information and monthly update and info emails. These emails will inform you of when we will meet and what kind of scripts we will be reading from!

Entry is $5 each month. Become a member of the Carolina Film Community (Charlotte Film Community) by paying the annual fee of $25 at (link will be provided soon). Members who pay the annual fee will gain FREE access to the Script Workshop and reduced entry to the Carolina Film Community monthly meetings!

As we continue to grow, we'll look at offering two workshops per month as well as opportunities for full-feature readings and staged readings. But these future offerings will depend on how much leadership we have. If you're interested in helping with leadership, please email the organizers.

Hope to see you soon!
