Welcome to the CFI Halifax Meetup group. The Centre for Inquiry Canada is an educational charity which advances reason, science, secularism and freedom of inquiry.
We do this through various programming such as lecture series, film screenings, book clubs, discussion groups, campus outreach, media, community and social services and volunteer-run committees.
CFI Halifax is one of many centres across Canada, all under the umbrella of CFI Canada.
This meetup group will serve as a hub for activities in and around Halifax, for fellow freethinkers, atheists, agnostics, humanists, skeptics, heathens and infidels - and friends and family!
While CFI Halifax-sponsored events are generally free to the public, we do ask you to consider supporting our efforts through membership or donation. To become a member or to make a tax-exempt charitable donation, please visit http://www.cficanada.ca/support /
In this presentation, Leslie Rosenblood (CFIC Treasurer and Secularism Chair) will discuss secularism in Canada: what it is, what it isn't, and why it's the means to maximal freedom for all. He will cover the history of secularism in Canada, compare it with the United States, provide an assessment of where Canada currently adheres to secular principles, and how it can improve in the future.
