What we're about

Our MeetUp is for local hikers interested in enjoying walks in the woods, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, birdwatching or outdoor photography. Our section of the 4,600 mile North Country National Scenic Trail connects with the Finger Lakes Trail and the Adirondack State Park. We also have "work hikes" that offer opportunities for volunteers to maintain and improve the North Country Trail. Join us!

Spring Wildflower Hike

Cazenovia Lake parking lot at south end of lake. On Rt 20 just east of Rt 92

Join us for an easy Spring Wildflower Hike. In past years we have identified over 50 flowers and other plants! What might we see: Trillium, Trout Lily, Spring Beauty? This is a leisurely hike, probably a couple of miles, led by an expert wildflower enthusiast, Mary Dineen [masked]) and assistant coordinator, Kathy Eisele [masked]). Dress for the weather (possible wet conditions), and bring water and a snack, if desired. We will car pool to nearby Nelson Swamp Unique Area, since parking there is limited. This hike also qualifies for the Hike 100 Miles on the North Country Trail Challenge. Co-sponsored by CNY Chapter of NCTA and ADK Onondaga. www.nctacnychapter.org

Spring Birding Hike (Easy)

Damon Road

A slow, quiet hike on a section of the Link Trail of Madison County from Damon Rd. 1/2 mile south to the beaver dam complex. This is late spring bird migration time, and we'll see how many birds we can identify by sight/sound. A new clear cut adjacent to the trail may bring in some additional species. Hike leader is expert birder, Steve Kinne [masked]). If possible, bring binoculars, and any identification keys you like (e.g. books, birding apps). 1 mile round-trip. www.nctacnychapter.org
