Backbone Trailwork from Mulholland to Etz Meloy (take 3)

Details

Join CORBA and the Santa Monica Mountains Trails Council as we head to the the Backbone Trail between Mulholland and Etz Meloy Fireroad. We're returning to this trail to finish the work we started a year ago.

We will mostly be clearing overgrowing brush on this visit.

After the work day is over, CORBA will treat you to lunch. Be sure to bring some snacks with you because trailwork doesn't end until early afternoon.

No experience is necessary to help out with trailwork. Tools and instructions on how to use them safely and effectively will be provided. Children must be over 7-years old to attend, and children under 14 must be constantly and directly supervised by their parent or guardian who brought them. And you don't need to be a mountain biker to help out - Everybody is welcome! For more information on trailwork in general, visit our trail crew web page (http://corbamtb.com/programs/trail-crew.shtml).

Be sure to wear protective clothing (sturdy shoes, long pants and sleeves, hat, gloves) and bring snacks, sunscreen and water. CORBA will provide the tools and training. Everybody works at their own pace.

We request that you pre-register (by RSVPing "Yes") so that we'll know how many tools to provide. Remember, by registering here, CORBA will treat you to lunch afterwards.

The thank-you lunch will be after trailwork ends at 2:30 pm, so bring some snacks to tide you over.

The cars will be locked in the parking area, so it won't be possible to leave early. Plan to stay until the end at 2:30. Everybody works at their own comfort level so you won't get worn down to a nub (unless you want to be)!

Directions to Mulholland Backbone Parking

From the 101 Freeway in Thousand Oaks, turn south on Westlake Blvd (CA-23-South). Stay on CA-23-S for 6.7 miles (along the way, Mulholland will come in from the left 5.2 miles from the freeway. Do not turn here, stay straight!). At 6.7 miles, turn into the narrow gravel drive on the left.

OR, from the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, turn up Encinal Canyon Road. In 5.0 miles, continue straight onto Lechusa Rd, then turn right immediately onto CA-23 Decker Canyon Road. Drive 1.3 miles and turn right into the gravel drive (Do not turn left at the stop sign at Mulholland Hwy – continue straight!).

Travel along the road to the parking area is very slow because of the hundreds of curves, many of them sharp, the popularity with bicyclists, and few places to pass them. Give yourself lots of time to get to the meeting place!
