Help Build New Trails with COTA – Finish Work Training
COTA is looking for volunteers who want to be involved in building new trail this season .
As we take on multiple projects this summer, we need trained volunteers who can help hand finish trail after our machines make the initial pass . This work includes shaping tread, cleaning edges, and dialing in the riding surface.
The goal of this training is to prepare volunteers ahead of time so when our machine operators are out building, they can keep the machines moving while trained helpers jump in and assist with finish work.
Because this work depends on when machines are operating, timing can sometimes shift. Instead of only traditional work parties scheduled in advance like this one on Meetup, this group will occasionally coordinate more flexibly when builders are out working.
We’re asking volunteers who attend the training to commit to helping at least 4 days this season, for 3+ hours each. We will start building in April and usually go until any fire restrictions shut us down in the summer... ramping back up after those restrictions are lifted. We can use help on both weekdays and weekends. After this initial training we will continue to help you get up to speed with technique at a work event.
This is a rare opportunity to work on brand new trail while it’s being built —something even many long-time Crew Leaders don’t often get to experience.
Projects expected this summer include:
• Storm King reroutes
• Upper Pinedrops (new climbing trail for Upper Whoops)
• Swampy Loop reroute
• Swampy–Dutchman new trail connection
Training:
Saturday, April 4th — 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM
After the training we’ll schedule at least one work session in advance so everyone can get some hands-on experience before construction ramps up.
If you’re excited about helping build brand new trails and can commit to four or more days helping this season , we’d love to have you join the crew.
All abilities and levels experience are welcome to join!
