Broad Band by Claire Evans - Women in Tech Past Present and Future

Details
At our forth meetup we will discuss the topic of women in tech – the same subject that we discussed at the first meetup, when we read Sadie Plant’s Zeros and Ones, published 20 years ago. This time we will read Claire L Evans’ Broad Band: The Untold Women Who Made the Internet, published earlier this year. Similar to Plant, Evans outlines some of the fantastic contributions’ women have done in the field of computing, from Ada Lovelace up to the cyber punk era of the 1990s.
We were so lucky to host a conversation with Evans at Techfestival last month, which only made us want to read her book and discuss it with you even more.
Join our next CPH Tech Book & Film Meetup, where we will learn- and seek inspiration from some of these hidden figures, that have been vanguards of tech. This time we will read a whole book. If you don’t have time to read it all, please focus on Part two: Connection Trip, which is about connections, networks and communities, and where a common trait amongst the women emerges: A commitment to users. As Evans writes: “If you’re looking for women in the history of technology, look always where it makes life better, easier and more connected”.
We hope you bring lots of questions, ideas and input to the meetup - and most importantly, we hope you’ll come ready to listen to each other and allow others to share their experiences, so we can all learn together.
This time we will meet at a new, but very special venue: Nr 33, Personlig Boghandel. An amazing local bookshop at Nørrebro, that have helped us bring Evans book to Copenhagen.
Looking forward to seeing you,
Nynne and Tina
